“The hotel itself was nice enough, good location, large rooms, friendly staff.
Unfortunately there were so many issues with the stay that it really soured the experience. To start, whilst staying at the hotel, the staff put on a new coat of paint in the bathroom while we were out, causing the room to smell of paint fumes. Supposedly they were planning to move our room but "forgot".
Additionally, the hotel seemingly has a tendency to overcharge. When eating at the bar, they overcharged by double, which I had to call and resolve. Upon checkout, they double charged my credit card, and when I brought it to their attention, they didn't refund the full amount (and then did, but re-charged the difference). Ultimately there are 5+ charges on my credit card when there should have been 0. This has caused a lengthy back-and-forth for what should be a straightforward process. If you do choose to stay here, keep a close eye on your credit card statement.”

“This really has no relevance to most visiting AKA, BUT it is important to me and isn't that what reviews are for? The Smyth Hotel lobby was one of of the best work spaces in lower Manhattan. I was there once a week at a minimum and spent an average of $100-$120 each visit. THEN, the AKA bought it, spent a small fortune renovating it, and CLOSED it to the public. I went to conduct a business meeting today, at the AKA, and was shoo'd out due to the CEO "not wanting anyone but guests" to be in the lobby. I was prepared to buy a drink, food, etc, as I understand how space works in NYC, but this is just extreme. Mind you there wasn't a single person sitting in the newly renovated and designed space. I am writing the CEO as well, but you knew that already, didn't you.”
